Napping Dog Press is a new press in the High Country of North Carolina, NC. The current owner/administrator is J. Robin Whitley and the idea for the press came about because of the joy of creating a work of art. Robin originally hoped to name the press Black Dog Press, but that name was taken. She turned to her dearest pal, Birdie, and asked her opinion. Birdie of course was napping as usual. Most of the time, Birdie naps in Robin’s lap. During the compilation of the first book and now the second, Birdie is ever faithful to curl at Robin’s feet.

Michele Jack is our master of graphic arts for Napping Dog Press. Robin asked if she might be able to design a logo based upon a photo of Birdie in a napping position. The photo of her stealing my bed pillow is more like the bad picture I sent to Michele. I loved that in the logo, Michele captured the sweetness of Birdie napping, but also, it’s as if Michele had met Birdie and saw the shape of her face.

For all the dog lovers out there, below are my favorite pictures of Birdie. She is present for every book.
